Your Coffee Bean Story

Getting Brewed

by Trisha Chang

I was not a coffee lover. I preferred my own bedroom as tambayan. I enjoyed being alone. I finished my work on my own. That is, until the 20th year of my life…

I was a graduating Occupational Therapy student at UP Manila. As it was our last year, we were required to handle patients and finish reports. I was then introduced to working late hours and waking up to sleepless mornings. This experience was part of every intern’s life. I had to find a productive place to study in and make reports as my classmates and I needed to help one another in every way possible. That was when I tried staying in coffeeshops, drinking my way through reports and readings, and bonding with friends at the same time. And the rest was history.

Now, I’m a licensed pediatric occupational therapist working with children with special needs. I still frequent my coffeeshop. I still drink coffee. Habits don’t die quickly.
